No one can tell what kind of wood my floors are made of. I live in Michigan and my house was built in 1967.?
The floors look really light colored when sanding but turn a darker golden color when a clear oil based poly is applied. They also have a lot of charachter and have some burl in them. I need to do some repairs. I can't afford to hire this out, so any helped would gladly be appreciated.
I know it is not an oak, everything else I have is oak lol. It does have some knots. It has alot of texture. My neighbor thinks it's Maple but isn't maple really light with little grain showing? I don't know about the quarter sawn thing yet but I am trying to get informatin online. I also don't know how to attach a picture on here or I would.
I has a lot of burls and bird eye in it. I haven't ever seen that in pine.
It does have a hammered textured appearance. It has a lot of color variations. When I put clear oil poly on it, it turned a dark reddish golden color. I am thinking they might just be some species of maple. Thanks everyone for all your help.
By the way you describe it changing color when you add a poly to it , sounds like its a maple or very possible a hickory by the reddish golden color you describe
