Are my cigars still fresh ?
they are kept in a humidor the one that uses green flower foam to humidify, the humidor is made of burl and cedar inside i cleansed the wood when purchased and always use distilled water. the thing is the hygrometer always reads 50 and lowers but its like the 70 % humidity is actualy at 50 % cuzz its not accuate. I've attempted to regulate it but failed, my cigas feel a little stiff. How can i tell if they're still good. thanks,
Rub them between your fingers, like rolling a joint. If you can hear the outer wrapping "crinkle" then you need more moisture. I'm assuming they are not in plastic. If your humidor needs tweaking, wet a paper towel and wring it out. Place it in a large plastic bag and fold over twice. Put the cigars in and seal. This is just a stop gap procedure. Don't leave them in for more than a couple of days as this could lead to mold over a period of time.
