how to install a blank hard drive as storage on a desktop xp media center edition computer?
i have a old hard drive thats from a windows me and i removed all files and operating systems from it and i want to use as a storage hard drive to use with my windows xp media center to save files to but not back them up how would i do this?
You should be able to simply mount the drive in the case and hook up the data and power cables to the HD from the Mb. If you have two CD/DVD drives, you may need a 'master/slave' cable since some new systems have only one IDE interface cables.
Note that both the primary and secondary IDE controllers on the mb can support up to two devices in a master/slave or 'auto' mode.
Set the hd up as a slave to one of the other drives, XP will be able to see it. Then use XP Disk Management to format, partition, or whatever you want to do with it.
