I have plaster walls in my home. Should I replace with drywall?
Ok my home is about 110 years old. I bought it for $34,000 Earlier this year. It's not a bad house, just needs updated. The electric needs replaced because it has the wiring with a cloth sheath over and I don't know how bad all of it is since I've only replaced a couple light fixtures. So should I tear out the plaster and wood lathes and put up drywall? Also, can I keep the original wood trim if I tear out the plaster? Any advice would help. Thanks
the only thing really wrong with the walls as of right now is they are really cracked n in a couple places it's bowed out.
Depends on how bad the plaster is. You have to make that call yourself. If you do put up drywall, be sure to insulate underneath, and wear a breather mask when you tear down the old stuff. You'll need boxes, to dispose of the debri. Don't use bags you'll be wasting your time they will rip and everything will fall down all over the place and you will lose your temper.
Don't see why you can't use the original trim. But you are going to damage some of it while tearing it out so see if you can find exact replacements for it for the parts the you lose. Or make your own replacements.
