is it true that cue made from cocobolo will warp?
i was told that using cocobolo wood for a cue isn't a good idea, i was told that because of the wavy figures or lines in the wood, it has a tendency to warp. is this true?
i was initially planning on having a cue made, birds eye maple forearm and buttsleve with a cocobolo handle. now i'm having second thoughts.
Almost every cue made out of any kind of wood will warp. It's almost always the shaft that will warp. Warping is usually cause from the way cues are stored. Never leave a cue leaning against a wall. Never pull a cue out of the rack by grabbing the middle. Don't store your cue in a humid environment. There are a few custom cues made out of cocobolo, but not in the shaft. I would go ahead and use cocobolo in the cue. Use any kind of hard wood in the cue. One thing about wood is that it is unpredictable. Very few kinds of Woods will not warp, like ironwood. Another thing to remember when using exotic hard woods is how to work with them. You have to use a respirator when doing any kind of sanding when working with some exotic hard wood, like purple heart, because the dust could kill you. A couple of good woods to use with inlays are holly and ebony. Good luck.
