Searching For How To Use A Wood Lathe Info? We Have Done The Hard Work For You

making your own lures?
do you think buying the right size wood dowel and sanding it to the right shape will make a decent walk the dog lure? the reason for the dowel is so i dont need to use a lathe to get the cylinder shape. and also what do you use to water proof the wood? and how do people make homemade swimbaits
okay so obviously the first 3 answers are from people who never fished or isnt into fishing enough to understand my ? first off walk the dog is a topwater lure and waterproofing the wood means keeping water out so it dosnt soak up water and sink, second these lures are about 8-15 bucks each so making them is like way less money if you have the things to do it and i dont mean expensive tools.
This is a process that will work with wood or plastic lures.
Get some slow cure epoxy, like a 30-minute or maybe even a 1-hr devcon. slow cure allows all the bubbles to escape as it cures, also tends to stay clear without yellowing.
Fabricate a frame to hold your lures as they cure. with a handle. some scrap pvc will do nicely. Install some small screw eyes on opposing sides of the frame, and hang a spring on each.
Hang your painted lure on the springs, using the hook eyes. Coat the lure with epoxy, and turn it, slowly, to make sure it's evenly coated as it cures. For best results add the second coat while the first is still tacky.
I'd recommend field testing before sealing with the epoxy -- so you can fine tune the shape.
swim baits, you mean like storm wild eye, and sassy shad? those are poured into molds.
You can make a mold of a hard plastic lure with pure silicone caulk and with about a teaspoon of water added. mix it up and put it into some kind of container that you can get it out of after it hardens. coat your lure in vaseline and put it into the mix, so it's completely covered. after a few minutes, the caulk turns to rubber. cut a slit along the top with a razor, pull your lure out. there are many 2-part plastics you can buy that are suitable for use with this kind of mold.
