What is the gear ratio in lathes while thread cutting ?
I'm a little rusty on that, since I haven't done it in 30 years, but I remember well enough to tell you, that is going to vary depending on what thread pitch you want to cut.
Basically, if you want a 24 t.p.i. cut, the lathe is going to have to spin 24 times for each inch that the bit travels.
Let's say, just for example, that your lead screw is 8 t.p.i. Your lathe head is going to have to spin 3 times as fast as your lead screw to get 24 t.p.i. If you want 32 t.p.i., it would have to be a 4 to 1 speed ratio.
The speed ratio would be inversely proportional to the gear ratio. To have the chuck go 3 times as fast, you would need a gear with 3 times as many teeth attached to the lead screw. Of course, compound gears complicate this a little more.
Here are a couple good articles on how to calculate the gear ratio for any particular machine, that I found on a quick Google search;

and a gear chart from an actual machine;
