wiring problem ?
1) I have knob & tube wired house (two wire) circa 1927.
2) On a circuit to the upstairs, I have power to 2 rooms, but no power to the bathroom.
3) The bathroom has a GFI outlet and a florscent light.
4) I replaced the GFI outlet with a simple outlet - no luck.
5) One brief moment last week I pressed the GFI reset, and the lights came on....but only momentary.... they are off again.
Could this be caused by the florescent light? or a bad wire in the wall - we have lathe& plaster - difficult to cut into and look.
any suggestions.......aside from calling an electrician??
check the connections at the light fixture. In old houses they usually bring power from the lights and use a "spider web"type of way to run the power. You might also want to undo all connections and make new ones..especially the neutral at the light fixture. Just make sure you check for voltage using a meter.
good luck..knob and tube may just need to be replaced.
