A milling machine has several directions of movement called axes of movement. To produce an accurate cut with the tool the workpiece has to be clamped into position by means of the table vice. If you want a cut that is in the direction of an axis of movement then it is imperative that before you start , you "clock" the jaws of the vice to be "square" to the table and therefore the cutter. If you dont do this, you wil never make an accurate cut
