I see that you answered my questions. The idea is that you don't want your hair to fall out. Have you read the package of color oops? They have it everywhere.
Extra Conditioning - With soy protein and aloe Vera
Softens and restructures while gently removing color.
Color Oops Extra Conditioning is a gentle and effective way to safely remove unwanted hair color in just 20 minutes. Color Oops reverses the hair coloring process by shrinking the color molecule so small that it simply washes away. Color Oops is bleach-free and ammonia-free; it will not have the damaging effects of bleach or ammonia-based products.
Color Oops takes you back to your lightest shade. It can return your hair to its natural color if the artificial hair color applied is darker than your natural color. If your post-process hair color is lighter than your natural color, your natural color has been chemically removed and cannot be restored. Color Oops will remove the artificial pigment from your hair, however, your hair will ultimately be the chemically lightened color. To go back to your natural color, it will be necessary to apply a hair colorant comparable to your own natural shade and tone.
I would shampoo a couple of times with a regular shampoo not for color treated hair. Then I would get a good conditioner and condition the hair the day before using anything. Use your own judgement on a good quality conditioner that you can continue to use after you are all done and returned to your desired color.
The Color Oops will remove the purple, so whatever color you pick will come out truer.
My favorite coloring is Garnier Nutrisse with the special packet of oils to add to the color.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Don't use black or even dark brown...too artificial. Believe it or not, always buy an over the counter dye that is a shade or two LIGHTER than you want.
2. What is your natural color?
3. When did you dye it w the Jerome Purple?
4. What is the condition of your hair?
5. You may have to bleach out or remove the color before you are able to get a good "normal" color.
See site below about color oops. This product removes unwanted results and is said to have no peroxide.
