how to clean the soul of a wood plane?
i have been given a stanley smoothing plane by my grandad and i want to clean it up and im not sure how to clean the soul without ruining it .. please help
What do you mean by cleaning it up? If it has pitch on it from the wood, you can use mineral spirits to clean it. If it's rusty, use steel wool and naval jelly. Check it for true, then apply a coat of car wax to the base. This will protect it from rust and help it slide when you are using it. Be sure that the iron has a sharp, properly beveled edge on it. Hope this helps.
