How much should I charge for a web application for a travel agency???
I'm going to develop a web application for a travel agency with two of my colleagues.
here's the description of the application I have to develop..
1.admin tool
2.weather information, currency information
3.news(RSS)
4.forum, guestbook
5.company presentation page
6. search tool for tour routes
7. City guide page (RSS)
8. Q&A
9. booking system with integrated google maps
10. login system
11. general layout design+logo for the company
We were thinking of charging at least 10 000$ with 1 year support.. is the price appropriate???
Be a bit more professional, and your client will have more faith in you too. What i mean is don't just create a ballpark figure based on a list of features. Take time to sit down with the client and do a proper Requirements Analysis. You should know in detail what is expected, business logic, data structures etc. From this you can then project how long each feature set will take - duration. Multiply the duration by an hourly rate that covers your time, expenses and some additional profit.
Do you need to buy any software, license information from 3rd Party sites etc. Will you have to pay up front for eCommerce gateways, credit card processing etc - if so, find out the exact costs and itemise for the client so that they pay in advance.
Last but not least, manage your time and be carefull if the clients starts widening the scopefeatures. Ideally they will have signed off on the Requirements Analysis and agreed what is in scope - anything else is then up for renegotiation. If they do add to the project then make sure that you itemise the effect of the changes and get them to signoff on paying the additional work.
At the end of the day it's business. Your client will feel safer in your skills if you appear more professional and take time now to really understand their needs.
