A Very Good friend of mine who is a philanthropist gave me a fist edition of a very rare book and?
neither of us realized the value of the book until I researched it. It's worth between $4,500 to $10,000, he told me just give him $500 he'd be happy, I honestly do not feel good about that number and feel we should split the money if anything. he is a good man. What would you do?

um i think i read this differently then the other two people. You wanted to offer him somethign right? he didnt ASK for the money for the book did he? you actually wanted to give him somethign and he said if you wanted to $500 would be fair? Well... if you get like $4000 for it or something id give him like $1000. if you get liek 6 or more thousand id give him 2000. I mean.. you are very lucky he gave you this book.. and i think it would only be fair to give him something. its nice he didnt want the book back. if i gave a friend a book that was worth money.. id be sooo mad at myself! but yeah be fair.. he will be happy too im sure! hmm maybe if he doesnt need the money and you do id give him less. talk to him a bout it and tell him you wanna do something reasonable. maybe you can dedicate a certain part to him like $1000. if he doesnt wanna accept it you can tell him its his to do whatever he wants. maybe he can donate it or something like that?
