Can I bring cut wood into Canada? (read description)?
I'm visiting family in brazil, and my uncle wants to give me a guitar body he cut so I can finish it, it's not laquered or stained, but it's fully dried.
It's brazillian Mahogany, blank, cut into the shape of a guitar.
Can I bring this blank cut wood into Canada?
I would call or email Canada Customs and ask, or maybe that's Canada Border Services agency now . I suspect it's probably okay, but last year, while trying to enter the US on a camping trip, I had to turn around and go back to Canada to get rid of about 15 pieces of firewood I had brought from home in Canada before the US would let me in. They said the only wood that could be brought into the US was wood that had been certified as insect free. While I was trying to get through the border with my little pile of firewood, there was a trailer full of wood being allowed into the US. When I asked why that wood was okay to pass but not my wood, they said that was a commercial importer who had had the wood officially inspected or treated to be insect free. I know that's a different country and all, but it demonstrates how picky they can get about some things. Better safe than sorry with something like this.
