What is likely to happen should I plane slightly wet wood (pine)?
I am using fence palings to make a table top for outdoor use. The wood is still slightly wet. Can I expect a reasonable result if I plane it now or should I wait till it is totally dry? My thicknesser's blades are very sharp as I have replaced them and have not planed anything else.
My plane is OK and won't clog. What I really would like to know is whether the wood will plane smoothly?
When you plane wet wood especially pine you will have to clean the blade constantly. This causes everything to dull and makes a mess that if not cleaned up right away becomes difficult. Plus the finish will be rough. Do yourself a favor and plane dry wood.
