Zig Zag Stitch with a Brother Sewing Machine?
I have a Brother VX-1120 sewing machine and I have it set to do a Zig Zag stitch and it does the stitch for a few stitches but then it will do a straight stitch and go back to the zig zag stitch. Is this normal? Can nanyone help me with the stitch and explain why it does this?
It's on the correct setting it's just "skipping". I'm thinking it might need to be serviced?
Have you tried a new needle of the correct point style and size of the fabric? If so, try a slightly larger needle. Is the needle correctly oriented in the machine? (Backwards needles skip!).
If those two are ok,
1) make sure the bobbin area and the area under the needle plate are clean (vacuum and brush, not compressed air for cleaning! -- it just blows the lint in farther).
2) bobbin is correctly wound
3) bobbin case is correctly inserted and latched
4) needle is fully up in the needle clamp
And as a final check, you can check the timing on your machine here -- but don't fiddle with the timing unless you know what you're doing.
